Vision & Heels – October 2022
Our October Babes, Booze & Business meetup in DeLand was nothing short of inspiring, bringing together a fantastic group of women at the gorgeous co-working space, Vision & Heels. This was a truly special evening, where we got to learn from an incredible guest speaker and support a cause that’s making a profound impact in the world.
A Warm Welcome from Jeanette, Founder of Vision & Heels
To kick things off, we heard from Jeanette, the founder of Vision & Heels, who welcomed us into her beautiful co-working space. Jeanette shared the story of how Vision & Heels came to be, emphasizing the power of creating a space for women to connect, grow, and build their businesses. Her vision for a supportive, collaborative environment for female entrepreneurs truly sets the tone for everything we do at Babes, Booze & Business. If you’re ever in DeLand, we highly recommend checking out this incredible space!
Showcase Speaker: Lorna Owens of Desert Sage
Our main event for the evening was a showcase of Desert Sage, presented by the inspiring Lorna Owens. Lorna is an accomplished nurse, lawyer, and author, whose deep passion for maternal health and advocacy has led her to create Desert Sage, a tea business with a purpose. Lorna shared her incredible journey and the mission behind Desert Sage, which is not just about selling tea, but about changing lives.
As part of her business, Lorna provides a portion of the proceeds from her tea sales to support midwifery services for pregnant women in Africa — a cause that is incredibly close to her heart. She spoke candidly about the challenges women in Africa face when it comes to maternal health care and how her efforts through Desert Sage are helping to bridge that gap.
Tasting Tea with Purpose
The event was made even more memorable with a tasting of Lorna’s delicious tea blends, which were not only soothing but packed with meaning. Each sip reminded us of the incredible impact we can have when we choose to give back. Lorna’s dedication to empowering women both here and abroad is truly awe-inspiring, and it was amazing to learn how her work as a nurse and advocate has intersected with her passion for creating high-quality, health-focused teas.
Networking and Community
After Lorna’s inspiring presentation, we had the opportunity to mingle, share our own stories, and network with other women entrepreneurs in the community. The evening was filled with meaningful connections and conversations, as always, and we left feeling motivated and empowered by Lorna’s commitment to making a difference in the world.
A Toast to Empowerment & Impact
What made this meetup truly special was the sense of purpose that filled the room. It’s rare to have the opportunity to support a business that’s not only successful but also making a significant impact on the lives of others. Lorna’s story reminded us that business can be both profitable and purpose-driven — and when you combine the two, incredible things can happen.
Thank You to Our Amazing Attendees and Speakers
A big thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful evening, and of course to Jeanette for providing such a beautiful space for us to gather. A huge shoutout to Lorna Owens for sharing her powerful story and the mission behind Desert Sage. Your dedication to improving maternal health and supporting women globally is truly inspiring.
We can’t wait to see you at our next Babes, Booze & Business event, where we’ll continue to inspire, empower, and connect. Until then, keep supporting one another and making an impact — both in business and in the world!
